I have cornice boards above 2 of my windows that I had someone make about 12 years ago. I have made cornice boards before, they are fairly easy, but these were more decorative at one time. About 4 years ago I took the front off, they were curved, and put a straight board on them and recovered them. When I covered them I left some fabric on the back thinking it wouldn't make any difference but I was never happy with how it looked from the outside when the drapes were open.
I just repainted the rooms and took the drapes down to be cleaned so I thought it was a perfect time to fix the cornice boards.
I started by trimming back the fabric that I had left on the cornice board.
Then the glue gun came out. I started by gluing down the cornice fabric so it was a little tighter in a few places.I folded over one edge of the fabric and glued it about 1/2 inch from the bottom edge. I glued a section along the bottom (about 6 inches at a time), smoothed it out and then glued a couple spots on the top edge. Do this working all the way down. That is it; a few yards of fabric, a hot glue gun and an hour+ and now valances I am happy with.
| My window looks like a mirror, good thing you can't see how dirty they really are! |
| Sorry this is so dark. Trust me, it looks nice! |
