Baby Shower Diaper Cake

A co-worker of mine is going to be a Grandma!
I am very excited for her. I have been invited to her daughter's baby shower and as a gift I am taking a Baby Shower Diaper Cake. It will also be used as a center piece.

These are so easy to make and are a fun way to give a gift without the wrapping paper.

Supplies you will need:
  • Base - whatever size you want, I used 16 in circle
  • Paper towel tube
  • Tissue paper
  • Diapers - I used 7doz newborn
  • Tape
  • 4 receiving blankets
  • 12 pair newborn socks
  • Yarn
  • Scissors
  • 3 bibs
  • 3 caps

Start out with a base. I used a piece of foam board that I cut into a 16-inch circle. You can buy cake circles already cut out at any bakery supply store or craft store. This was cheaper.

Just be careful when you are cutting out the circle. Be sure to put a cutting mat underneath it. I'm not admitting to anything!! Just saying.......

I didn't like the rough edges so I covered it with some white tissue paper.

With my trusty glue gun I put a bead of hot glue on the center circle and sat the tube on top of it.
Then I put an extra bead of glue around the tube for extra strength.

Now start attaching the diapers. Wrap the first one around the tube and start adding them by taping them together. I used a clear tape that I tested on the diapers first to make sure it could come off without ruining the diapers. They are part of the gift, too.

I used 4 doz diapers on the bottom, I think. I lost count but that is close.
Take your receiving blankets and fold them to the height of the cake layer. It took 2 blankets to wrap around the 1st layer. I secured them with some soft fuzzy baby yarn I had.
Then start on then next layers. Once you have all the layers you want put together and wrapped you can start to decorate.

First layer - I used some bibs and baby caps rolled up to cover up the diapers. I also tucked some head bows around and some socks under the yarn.
Second layer - I rolled up baby socks and tucked in
Third layer - I used a cuddly teddy blankey as a topper.
